Punjab Civic Polls: Newly married woman on way to cast vote dies in Amritsar, Lathi-charge in Abohar

Voting is going on in 5 municipal corporations including Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Patiala and Phagwara and will continue till 4 pm.

Voting is going on in 5 municipal corporations of Punjab at 7 am. These include Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Patiala and Phagwara. Voting will continue till 4 pm. Counting will take place as soon as voting is over and the results will be declared.  Final poll percentage of 47.28% at 3 PM  has been recorded in Jalandhar district .

MC Jalandhar - 42.56%, NP Mehatpur - 56.16%, NP Bilga. - 59.17%, NP Shahkot -54.77%, MC Goraya.- 56.80%, MC Bhogpur- 64.70% and MC Phillaur. - 48.69%. 

Meanwhile, police has lathi-charged some miscreants outside Abohar Municipal Corporation booth as these youths were trying to forcefully enter the booth. 

A newly married woman who had come to cast her vote in Amritsar died in a road accident. The newly married woman had come on her scooter. Unfortunately, a truck hit her. The woman died in the incident. Police is investigating the matter.

A fight broke out at the polling booth in Guru Amardas School in Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar, Ludhiana. It has been alleged that Ward No. 35 Congress candidate Harsharan Kaur Happy's husband Surendra Singh was standing outside the polling station. Following this, Aam Aadmi Party workers had got into a heated argument with him. After this, the force was deployed on the spot. Congress MLA from Jalandhar Cantt and former Indian hockey team player Pargat Singh also reached the spot.

BJP candidate from Patiala's ward number 34 Sushil Nayyar has tried to pour petrol on himself. Nayyar has alleged that some people are getting fake votes cast. Additionally, unknown miscreants opened fire on youths riding a Thar in the middle of the elections in Ajnala, Amritsar.

BJP leader Jaiinder Kaur in Patiala said that people from outside attacked our booth with bricks and swords. In which 2 people including a BFS jawan were injured. Elections are not being held in 7 wards of Patiala and 8 wards of Moga on the orders of the High Court.
