Jalandhar, April 2: The women of the district have welcomed the initiative of the Punjab Government to provide free bus travel and panic button facility in the government owned buses. They said this move would infuse a sense of confidence and safety among them when they would be travelling in the safest transport in the state.
A local resident Pratigiya appreciated the step taken by the Capt Amarinder Singh led state government and said this would not save their money but would also ensure safer journey to them. She stated that this would also encourage the women to go at their workplaces without any kind of fear in the minds.
Similarly, Rajvir Kaur, who got off a bus at the local bus stand, stated that this decision would lead to further strengthen women empowerment in the state. She said that with free bus service to the women, they would be able to contribute more actively in the socio-economic progress of the state.

A newly-wed Neha, said that she has recently married here and with the free bus facility, she would be able to take care of her mother more efficiently at Ludhiana with more money in hands. She thanked Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh for this path-breaking initiative.
It is pertinent to mention here that Punjab Government on April 1, 2021, has launched the free bus travelling women in government owned buses or city buses run by local bodies department by just showing any ID card of Punjab domicile. Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said the panic button has been installed in all these buses for ensuring safer journey to the women passengers besides GPS tracking of all the buses.
