Rahul Gandhi will visit poll-bound state Punjab on February 6. According to sources, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi may announce the chief ministerial candidate for Punjab. It may be Navjot Singh Sidhu, Charanjit Singh Channi, or any other leader from the party.
During his visit on January 27, Rahul Gandhi stated that the party will fight the elections with a CM face and a decision would be taken soon after consulting party leaders. He also said that Sidhu and Channi have said that whosoever will be selected, will support the selected candidate.
There’s a strong buzz that ‘Accidental CM’ Channi will be selected as the CM Face of Congress in Punjab. As the SC and ST community has taken the lion’s share of vote bank in Punjab, the Congress is pinning its hopes on Charanjit Singh Channi who belongs to the schedule caste community. The Congress has fielded him from two seats -- Chamkaur Sahib and Bhadaur -- in the state assembly polls.
