Punjab is facing a severe heatwave with temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius in many cities, including Amritsar, Jalandhar, and Ludhiana. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Majha-Doaba and a yellow alert for Malwa regions. The situation is expected to persist on Sunday as well.
The Department has warned people to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary outings to prevent heat stroke. Essential work can be carried out, but people should take necessary precautions and stay hydrated.
The cities of Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Jalandhar, and Hoshiarpur have been put on high alert. The heat wave is expected to affect other areas of Malwa as well.
Yesterday, Faridkot recorded a temperature of 40.9 degrees Celsius, while Samrala of Ludhiana recorded 40.7 degrees Celsius. Today, the temperature in the three major cities of Punjab is expected to cross 40 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department has divided Punjab into four parts - Majha, Doaba, West Malwa, and East Malwa. According to the Department, there is a possibility of rain in Majha and Doaba regions on March 16. On April 17-18, it is expected to rain across Punjab, and a yellow alert has been issued for the same. Rain is expected in most parts of Punjab till April 20.
