A rare tornado hit the Abohar village of Fazilka district of Punjab on Friday. On Friday, an alert was issued by the weather department in Punjab that thunderstorms with lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) were expected in various districts of Punjab. Due to this tornado around 50 houses have been damaged while 10 people were injured. Video of the same has also gone viral.
Reportedly, on Friday evening a clear swirling column of air carrying dust and debris was spotted in a village of Fazilka. As soon as the information was received, BSF jawans reached the spot and initiated a rescue operation. As per information, around 10 people got injured out of which two were sent to Faridkot medical college and remaining were sent to Abohar civil hospital. The survivors have been identified as Ratan Singh, Sohan Singh, Bimla Rani, and Mahinder Singh.
Akali leader and former MLA Dr. Mahendra Ranwa along with his team visited the affected village and assured the people of getting the necessary help from the administration. The tornado was destructive upto a level and it uprooted various tress and badly damaged several houses. The locals of village are still in a state of shock due to the rare weather they experienced on Friday. As per the Sarpanch of Village, around 50 houses have got damaged due to reported cyclonic storm. Adding to this, traffic in the area also came to a standstill due to the falling of a large number of trees.
