The Punjab and Haryana High Court granted bail to former Health Minister Dr. Vijay Singla. He was accused of demanding ‘one-percent commission’ in tenders and purchases by the department. He was arrested on May 24 under sections 7 and 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act at Phase VIII police station, Mohali.
During the hearing on Friday, Punjab Advocate General Anmol Rattan Sidhu appeared on the behalf of the state, and submitted his report that the investigation is complete, Singla submitted his voice samples and cooperated in the investigation.
Singla’s bail plea was earlier rejected by a special court in Mohali, after which he filed a petition before the Punjab and Haryana High Court. In the bail petition, Singla’s lawyers, senior advocate Vinod Ghai with advocate Kanika Ahuja, had contended that the FIR against him was the outcome of political rivalry.
