Punjab's first child-friendly police station was launched today by ADGP Gurpreet Deo, who has an additional charge of Women and Child Affairs. She said it would help provide an environment for the children where they would be able to express themselves without any hesitation.
The main motive behind setting up such a police station was to ensure that every child, whether involved in a crime or a witness to it, has proper and timely access to justice.
Deo said the police station had been set up in coordination with the Bachpan Bachao Andolan. All types of sports activities, toys, books, wall paintings, and other materials had been made available to build a home-like atmosphere in the police station.
