The Punjab government has given another gift to the people of the state by issuing a new electricity tariff. This tariff has been released for the year 2025-26. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, led by Bhagwant Mann, has further reduced electricity rates, providing relief to the people of the state.

While settling the tariff petition of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (Powercom), the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission has released the new electricity rates for 2025-26. According to the new orders, domestic electricity consumers, as well as industrial and other consumers in the state, have received significant relief. Under the new policy, the previous three slabs for domestic consumers have now been reduced to two.

According to the orders, for domestic consumers with up to 2-kilowatt load, the electricity rate for the first 100 units was earlier ₹4.29 per unit. For the next 101 to 300 units, the rate was ₹6.76 per unit, and above 300 units, it was ₹7.75 per unit. The commission has now revised these rates to ₹5.40 per unit for up to 300 units and ₹7.75 per unit for consumption above 300 units. As a result, consumers whose bill for 300 units was ₹1,781 will now pay ₹1,620.

Similarly, for consumers with a load between 2 to 7 kilowatts, the electricity rate for the first 100 units was earlier ₹4.54 per unit. For 101 to 300 units, it was ₹6.76 per unit, and above 300 units, it was ₹7.75 per unit. Now, the rate has been set at ₹5.72 per unit for the first 300 units and ₹7.75 per unit for consumption above 300 units. This means that a 300-unit bill, which was earlier ₹1,806, will now be ₹1,716.

For consumers with a load between 7 to 20 kilowatts, the rate for the first 100 units was previously ₹5.34 per unit, ₹7.15 per unit for 101 to 300 units, and ₹7.75 per unit for consumption above 300 units. Now, the rates have been revised to ₹6.44 per unit for the first 300 units and ₹7.75 per unit for consumption above 300 units. Accordingly, the bill that was ₹1,964 earlier will now be ₹1,932 per unit.

300-unit bills already waived off

Notably, domestic consumers already receive a waiver on electricity bills for up to 300 units. The benefit of cheaper electricity will not go directly to consumers but will instead be availed by the Punjab government, as it will have to pay a lower electricity bill to Powercom.
