In a significant step towards enhancing women’s safety the Punjab Government has launched ‘Project Hifazat’, a comprehensive initiative aimed at providing immediate assistance to women facing violence. This project was inaugurated today in Chandigarh by Cabinet Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur.
Under this initiative one-stop centers will be established at the block level to ensure swift intervention in cases of domestic violence, harassment and other crimes against women. The government will monitor rescue operations through the ‘Sakhi web portal’ ensuring accountability and efficiency in addressing complaints.
Women in distress can seek immediate help by registering complaints on the 181 helpline, which will connect them to trained personnel for support designated ‘Mahila Mitra’ (Women Friends) will offer assistance and counseling to victims.
To further strengthen the initiative, the government will create a district-level women’s database to track cases and improve response mechanisms. Awareness campaigns will also be launched across Punjabn to educate women about their rights and the resources available to them under the Project Hifazat.
The initiative marks a crucial step in Punjab’s efforts to create a safer environment for women ensuring that they have quick access to help and protection whenever needed.
