In a historic decision by the government of Punjab, the State government's office timing was changed from the traditional 9 am to 5 pm to 7:30 am to 2 pm. Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann leading by example was among the first who arrived at the office. Not only this, CM Mann also addressed an early morning press conference where he clarified that the decision has been taken to keep the scorching summer, heat waves and to save power. Apart from Mann, other AAP ministers including Aman Arora, Brahm Shankar Jimpa, Harbhajan Singh and Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal also reached their offices at 7.30 am. Addressing the early morning press conference, Mann assured that his decision will save electricity power "Though we have no shortage of power, but this will help save 350 MW of power in a day,” said Mann adding, "This reduction in power consumption, if monetised, will ensure that Rs 16-17 crore is saved per month as power bills."
Furthermore, Punjab CM stated that there would be no load shedding on industry and domestic consumers. “We have enough power to be diverted to the agriculture sector for the paddy season.” he said. Notably, CM Mann also pointed out the alarming heatwaves looming over Punjab in the upcoming months, Mann stated that the upcoming two to three months are alarming keeping the summer in mind. The weather department has already cautioned States about the heat waves, so the Punjab office timing change decision will not be only fruitful in saving energy but also for people working in offices.
