The Punjab government's decision to provide free electricity has benefited the state's residents and especially the low-income families. This groundbreaking initiative has positioned Punjab as the first state in India where 90% of domestic consumers receive zero electricity bills.
Prior to this scheme, many households struggled to pay their electricity bills, impacting their ability to meet other essential needs. With the financial burden lifted, families can now allocate these savings towards education, healthcare, and other priorities.
Kurali residents have expressed their gratitude for this commendable step, praising the Punjab government for prioritizing the welfare of its citizens. They believe that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann's leadership has been instrumental in ensuring that the state's poor population receives the benefits they deserve.
To demonstrate its commitment to the power sector, the Punjab government has proactively paid a subsidy of Rs 20,200 crores to the Power Corporation of Punjab (PSPCL) at the end of the 2022-23 financial year. This timely payment, divided into two installments, cleared outstanding dues accumulated from previous administrations.
Additionally, the government has allocated substantial funds for various sectors. The Punjab government led by CM Bhagwant Singh Mann, has set an example by making advance payment of subsidy to the Powercam.
At the end of the financial year 2022-23, the government paid a subsidy of Rs 20, 200 crores to the Powercam. The government paid Rs 1,804 crore in the first installment and Rs 9,020 crore in the second installment. This payment cleared the outstanding dues from the time of the previous governments.
These measures underscore the Punjab government's dedication to providing affordable and accessible electricity to its citizens, fostering economic growth, and improving the overall quality of life.
Apart from this, the government has paid Rs 9,063. 79 crores for the free electricity supply to the farmers’ motors, Rs 8,225 crores for the domestic electricity consumer,s and Rs 2,910 crores for the industrial sector subsidy.
