An urban development plan has been announced by the government of Punjab to upgrade the roads across three cities of the state. The Finance Minister of Punjab - Harpal Singh Cheema, has announced that a project worth ₹140 crore will ensure that around 42 kilometers of the roads will be enhanced with world-class amenities like road durability, pedestrian safety, realigned street lights, and much more.
The minister has mentioned that this new project will assist in increasing the traffic flow, allowing people to travel with convenience and safety.
The projected road will cover an area of around 42 kilometers. Key changes like wider and well-marked roads, smart and clean drainage systems, and green landscaping will be added to enhance road quality and reduce pollution and dust.
Along with this, the road will also be equipped with pedestrian walking, bus stops, and streetlights.
Which states of Punjab will be benefitted?
According to the official information from the government of Punjab, the cities that will benefit from modern and up-to-date roads are Jalandhar, Ludhiana, and Amritsar.
Finance Minister of Punjab Harpal Singh Cheema also addressed the newly announced project and mentioned that this initiative has taken inspiration from world-class roads in Germany, France, and Australia. He further noted that the roads of those nations are known for their efficiency, durability, and well-planned road infrastructure.
The government of Punjab aims to offer a better commuting experience to these key cities, as well as provide them with roads that will help them drive better and more comfortably.
The project’s plans -
According to the official information released by the government, the project will be divided into three phases, i.e., 4 months, 8 months, and 10 years.
4 month phase will include planning and designing the roadmap with the help of international experts
8-month phase will include all the construction work, and
The 10-year phase will focus on road maintenance and sustainability.
The government has assured that such initiatives will be adopted if this project turns out to be a success.
Punjab government’s allocation for road infrastructure -
According to the latest budget presented by the government of Punjab, around ₹2,873 crore has been allocated for the development and maintenance of road infrastructure across the state.
Furthermore, it is to be noted that projects like these provide a better and smoother way for commuters, also allowing them to travel in reduced travel.
