Punjab govt nods to home delivery of liquor. Here are the timings

In a pursuit to ensure that no social distancing norms are violated, the Punjab state government has nodded to the decision of home delivery of liquor amidst curfew. This is to be noted that a number of states struggled with ensuring social distancing when they opened the liquor vends earlier this week.

In Punjab, shops are allowed to open from 9 am till 1 pm. However, reports suggest that the home delivery of liquor will be permitted between 1 pm to 6 pm.

Home delivery of liquor will not only help the administration prevent crowding at liquor shops as being witnessed across the country but also enable the social distancing norm.

Reports suggest that the Excise and Taxation Department is pondering over issuing a curfew pass to an employee of the liquor vend contractor, enabling him to deliver the liquor at home.

Notably, the Chhattisgarh government has already set up a web portal for home delivery of liquor in green zones of the state.

"The state government has given permission for the online sale of liquor so that crowding at wine shops can be discouraged," a public relations department official said.

People in Chhattisgarh can now download the CSMCL app and order the liquor.

In a related development, the Confederation of Indian Alcoholic Beverage Companies (CIABC), an apex body of the Indian alcoholic beverage industry, had yesterday urged the Delhi government to permit home delivery of alcohol in the national capital.
