Punjab Haryana HC Shall Remain Closed on These Dates, Month-Wise 2025

The Government of Punjab Department of Personnel has announced the official holidays for the year 2025. Here’s a month-by-month breakdown of the holidays declared for the Punjab, Haryana High Court including subordinate courts in 2025.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court, which serves both the states of Punjab and Haryana, as well as the union territory of Chandigarh, has now announced the official holidays for the year 2025. These holidays, which are under the national observance, regional festivals, and significant religious events, will affect the working schedule of the court throughout the year, Here’s a month-by-month breakdown of the holidays declared for the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 2025. 

January 2025

The month of January will be observing two national holidays:

  • On January 6, (Monday) the Punjab and Haryana High Court, along with the subordinate courts under its jurisdiction, will remain closed in observance of the auspicious occasion of Guru Gobind Singh Maharaj’s birth anniversary. 
  •  On January 26, 2025, India will mark the 76th anniversary of Republic Day. This year 26th January is a Sunday. The courts will remain close to observe this important day in India’s history, celebrating the adoption of the Indian constitution. 

February 2025

  • On February 12, (Wednesday), the Punjab and Haryana HC along with its subordinate courts will remain closed for the observance of Shri Guru Ravidas ji’s birth anniversary. 
  • On February 26, (Wednesday) the courts shall remain closed to celebrate the pious day of Mahashivratri, 

March 2025

  • On March 14, (Friday) the courts in the Punjab and Haryana jurisdiction shall be closed for the festival of Holi. 
  • On March 23, (Sunday) the courts will remain closed to honor the martyrdom of Bhagat Singh and Rajguru, paying tribute to their sacrifice for the nation. 
  • On March 31, (Monday) the courts will remain closed for the occasion of Idul Fitr. 

April 2025

  • On April 6, (Sunday) the courts will remain closed for the pious occasion of Ram Navami and Sunday. 
  • On April 8, (Tuesday) the courts in Punjab and Haryana jurisdiction shall remain closed for the birth anniversary of Shri Guru Nabha Dass ji. 
  • On April 10, (Thursday) the courts shall be closed for the Mahavir Jayanti. 
  • On April 13, (Sunday),  Baisakhi is a significant harvest festival in Punjab and Haryana, marking the beginning of the new harvest season. Although it will be Sunday this year on Baisakhi, the court will observe this as a local holiday. 
  • On April 14, (Monday), the courts under the jurisdiction of Punjab and Haryana will remain closed in observance of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary. Dr. Ambedkar, fondly remembered as the architect of the Indian Constitution,  played a pivotal role in shaping modern India. The closure of courts on this day allows the legal community and citizens to pay tribute to his enduring legacy on his vision for an inclusive and equitable society. 
  • On April 18, (Friday), the courts will be closed on the occasion of Good Friday 
  • On April 29, (Tuesday), the courts shall remain closed to celebrate the birthday of Bhagwan Parshuram ji. 

May 2025

  • On May 1, (Thursday), the courts in Punjab and Haryana jurisdiction will be closed for National Labours Day. 
  • On May 30th (Friday), the courts shall remain closed for the observance of the martyrdom day of Shri Guru Arjun Dev ji, 

June 2025

  • On June 7, (Saturday), the courts shall remain closed for the occasion of Id-ul-Zuha (Bakrid) 
  • On June 11, (Wednesday), the courts shall remain closed to celebrate the Kabir Jayanti. 

August 2025

  • On August 15, (Friday), the courts will be closed to celebrate the 78 years of India’s independence. 
  • On August 16, (Saturday) the courts shall remain closed on the occasion of Janam Ashtami.

September 2025

  • On September 22, (Monday) the courts in Punjab and Haryana jurisdiction shall remain closed on the occasion of Maharaja Agrasain Jyanti. 

October 2025

  • On October 2nd, (Thursday) the courts in India will remain closed for Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra falling on the same day. 
  • On October 7 (Tuesday) the courts shall remain closed for the occasion of Maha Rishi Valmiki Jayanti.
  •  On October 20 (Monday) the courts in India shall remain closed for the festival of Diwali.
  • On October 22, (Wednesday) the courts in Punjab and Haryana jurisdiction shall remain closed for the occasion of Vishwakarma Day.

November 2025

  • On November 5, (Wednesday), the courts under the jurisdiction of Punjab and Haryana will remain closed in observance of Guru Nanak Dev ji’s Jayanti. The holiday provides an opportunity for the legal community and citizens to honor his teachings of equality, compassion, and unity.  
  • On November 16, (Sunday) every year the courts remain closed on the martyrdom day of Sat Kartar Singh Sarhaba ji. However this year this important day falls on a Sunday. 
  • On November 25, (Wednesday), the courts in Punjab and Haryana jurisdiction shall remain closed to honor the martyrdom day of Shri Guru Teg Bahadur ji. 

December 2025

  • On December 25, (Tuesday), the courts all over India shall remain closed for Christmas Day. 
  • On December 27, (Saturday), the High Court and the subordinate courts of the Punjab and Haryana jurisdiction will be closed to honor the shaheedi Sabha, Shri Fatehgarh Sahib Ji. 

Additionally, the courts in Punjab and Haryana are closed on Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. 

The Punjab and Haryana High Court will observe several holidays in 2025, based on national observance and key religious and cultural festivals. From the Republic Day celebration in January to Christmas in December, these holidays will allow legal professionals, lawyers, and litigants to plan their schedules accordingly.
