The municipal elections in Phagwara were completed with overall peace and order. Apart from a few minor incidents, voting was conducted smoothly in almost all 50 wards. For the municipal elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) sent an MP and three MLAs as coordinators for election campaigning across the 50 wards. However, it was the strategy of Congress legislator Balvinder Singh Dhaliwal that played a significant role in Congress' success. Without inviting other leaders, he carried out election campaigns in various wards, leading Congress to win 22 seats, signaling that in the coming time, the municipal corporation will be under Congress, and the mayor will also be from Congress.

Phagwara residents showed limited enthusiasm in the municipal elections, with many voters struggling to find their names on the voter lists. Some didn’t even cast their votes, and some couldn’t even locate their polling stations. Phagwara city had a total of 101,374 voters, of whom only 55,964 cast their votes. Some voters couldn’t find their names, while others simply didn’t turn up at the polling booths. In this scenario, several prominent leaders lost the elections. People expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling party’s leadership in Phagwara, and as a result, they supported Congress candidates.

In the context of the municipal elections, Congress entered into an alliance with BSP, while Akali Dal allied with BJP to try their luck in the elections. From Akali Dal’s declared candidates, 3 emerged victorious, while BSP also won 3 seats. Additionally, 6 independent candidates, 4 BJP candidates, and 12 AAP candidates were successful. Congress, however, secured 22 seats.
