With lockdown comes various travel restrictions, people are confined to their homes and are not allowed to leave for other countries as well.

Many NRI's are stuck in this situation, feeling helpless to return abroad. On Tuesday morning, one such case has emerged from Jalandhar district's Kaki village where an NRI named Amarjit Singh Kahlon (72) committed suicide under depressive circumstances.

Reportedly, Singh, who was red-passport holder, on February 29 had returned from London with his wife to his native place for 2 weeks. His children are residing in the UK.

Due to lockdown and its restriction, he couldn't find a way to return home and see his children. His wife, while giving information revealed that travel restrictions pushed him into depression. Amarjit tried to book returning tickets but they were quite expensive. He couldn't bear the distance from his children, thus, committed suicide.

After the news broke out, Rama Mandi SHO Sulakhan Singh reached on spot and gathered information about the incident. The deceased body has been sent for an autopsy to evaluate the actual cause of death, the report is awaited.  So far no other cause of suicide has been revealed.

It is worth mentioning here that Punjab has hailed nearly one lakh NRI returnees in the first quarter of this year which dived the territory in the state of tension.

Viewing the situation, Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh had issued a warning to all NRIs and foreign travellers to do not hide their travel history from police and health authorities else their passport would be confiscated by the govt.

So far, Punjab coronavirus tally stands at 251 with 16 deaths.
