Punjab Police on late Wednesday night swung into action and dismantled farmers' protest camps from the Shambhu and Khanauri Border. While many protestors left the site by their own choice, Punjab Police also had to detain farmers who were not ready to clear the Shambhu and Khanauri Border. Ultimately, the Punjab Police cleared the area. Meanwhile, BKU leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal was shifted to PIMS Hospital in Jalandhar in tight security. According to information received from sources, police with heavy force brought Dallewal to PIMS Hospital in Jalandhar at 2:00 am. However, at 8 am, the police shifted Jagjit Singh Dallewal to another hospital.
The Punjab police had taken action following an inconclusive meeting between farmers and the central government. A video surfaced showing multiple police vehicles entering the hospital premises late at night.
According to the information, now Jagjit Singh Dallewal has been shifted to the PWD Guest House in Jalandhar Cantt. A heavy police force is also deployed at the gate of Jalandhar Cantt. Even the media was stopped at the gate of Jalandhar Cantt. All the vehicles entering the Cantt are being sent inside only after checking.
On Punjab Police action at Shambhu and Khanauri Border, SSP Patiala Nanak Singh said, "Farmers had been protesting at Shambhu Border for a long time. Today, in the presence of Duty Magistrates, Police cleared the area after they were given proper warning. A few people showed a willingness to go home. So, they were sent home on a bus. In addition, the structures and vehicles here are being moved. The entire road will be cleared and opened for traffic. Haryana Police will also begin their action. Once it opens from their side, the movement on the highway will resume. We did not need to use any force because there was no resistance. Farmers cooperated well and they sat in buses by themselves."
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema reiterated the party’s unwavering support for farmers while urging them to avoid actions that harm Punjab’s trade and industrial sectors.
Cheema said, "During the protest against the three black farm laws imposed by the BJP-led central government, AAP stood firmly with the farmers. Punjab’s people and our government supported the farmers wholeheartedly during that time. Today, the farmers’ demands are still directed at the central government, and their fight must continue at that level. Blocking Punjab’s borders like Shambhu and Khanauri is causing severe damage to the state’s economy and trade."
