Punjab has been witnessing 'peak winters' in the month of January 2025. The state has been engulfed with dense fog in the early morning and at night. As a result, IMD Chandigarh has put Punjab on an orange alert. Not only this, but multiple cities in Punjab are also likely to witness rainfall in the coming days. Rainfall in Punjab may intensify the winter in the upcoming days and the temperature of the areas receiving rainfall may decrease more.
As per Apple Weather App, Jalandhar and Ludhiana will witness rainfall in the upcoming days. While Jalandhar may witness rainfall for two days i.e. on January 11 and January 12, Ludhiana may witness winter showers on January 11. There are 50 percent chance of rainfall in Jalandhar on Saturday i.e. on January 11, while on Sunday i.e. January 12, there is a 55 percent chance of rainfall in Jalandhar (While writing). On the other hand, there is a 45 percent chance of rainfall in Ludhiana on January 11, i.e. on Saturday.
Punjab put on Orange Alert
A significant change in weather patterns is being observed across Punjab. While the state is experiencing intense cold, people are also facing challenges due to dense fog in the mornings and evenings, particularly affecting transportation.
The weather department at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, has shared that dense fog is likely in the coming days. Dr. Pavneet Kaur Kingra, the head of the department, stated that an orange alert has been issued for the next two days. She also mentioned that after this, a yellow alert has been announced for January 9. From January 10 to 12, light drizzle is expected in various parts of Punjab.
She advised people to take precautions when stepping out of their homes and be mindful of fog while traveling. Additionally, she urged everyone to stay protected from the cold by covering themselves adequately when going outdoors. Morning and evening walks should be avoided for the time being.
