As promised by multiple farmers unions, protestors on Wednesday started an indefinite Rail Roko Andolan over the non-fulfillment of promises made by the Central government. Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher released a video statement and revealed that the farmers did not want to disrupt railway services but since the government is not agreeing on what was promised, they have started Rail Roko in Sambhu for an indefinite time. Not only this, Pandher demanded a high-level meeting with Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Agriculture Minister, and BJP Chief JP Nadda over the farmers' demands by April 23. Following the farmers Rail Roko started at 12:00 noon, multiple trains were cancelled and many were diverted.
As per the information received at least 8 trains were cancelled due to the farmers protest in Sambhu and 11 trains were also diverted. Below is a list of trains that are cancelled and diverted-
What are the demands of farmers?
Pandher in a video statement said, "Yesterday SKM non-political, KMM made big announcements. Among them we will question the BJP as well as the opposition parties. We will ask the opposition parties why they did not give a clear answer on pulling out India from the WTO. How will they punish the preparatory of Lakhimpur Kheri if they form a government? Some parties gave a positive response to some of our demands. But, they are not speaking on our every demand, especially on MNREGA and Rs 700 wage."
"In Haryana, there were multiple meetings. In Chandigarh, BJP Punjab Chief Sunil Jakhar had said that they are ready to hold talks with farmers. They are ready to answer anything. Therefore, we have accepted their challenge and by April 23 they should finish this. But, whenever we ask something they say that these are big matters and higher officials can answer this. Therefore, PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and JP Nadda should come by April 23 and we will ask them questions," added Pandher.
