Punjab on Thursday has recorded 3,187 fresh COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day spike so far and 60 people have also succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours.
Before this, the state on March 26 reported 3,176 infections and today's count of infections surpassed it.
According to a medical bulletin issued by the Punjab government, the death stands at 6,926 with 60 recent casualties. The number of active cases also escalated from 23, 832 on Wednesday to 24, 644 on Thursday.
Thursday's maximum number of cases were reported by Jalandhar i.e. 416 while Mohali and Ludhiana witnessed 409 and 376 respectively.
Moreover, 332 cases were reported among fresh ones in Amritsar 332 with 268 in Patiala.
The highest number of deaths in the day has been registered in Amritsar which is 11, Hoshiarpur and Jalandhar (9) each, and Ludhiana (8).

In a sigh of relief, 2,291 patients were discharged after recovering from the contagious disease. With this, the number of cured persons rose to 2,11,325, as per the bulletin.
Total 33 patients are in critical condition and have been put on ventilator support while 334 are on oxygen support.
Notably, on Wednesday, Punjab CM Amarinder Singh had warned the public of taking stern measures to curb the spread of disease in the state if the situation does not show signs of improvement in the next week.
