Punjab on Saturday has recorded 5,724 fresh COVID-19 cases
with 92 casualties in the last 24 hours. Notably, the state is witnessing the surge
in infection cases owing to the second wave of virus which has filled the
nation with grim.
Before this, the state on April 24 reported 6,762 infections, highest-spike amidst the second wave of Covid.
According to a medical bulletin issued by the Punjab government, the death stands at 8,356 with 92 recent casualties. The number of active cases also escalated to 46,565 on Saturday.
Saturday’s maximum number of cases was reported by SAS Nagar i.e. 802 while Ludhiana and Jalandhar witnessed 861 and 544 respectively.
Moreover, 592 cases were reported in Bathinda followed by 465 cases in Patiala, 385 in Amritsar, 206 in Gurdaspur, and 131 in Kapurthala.

The highest number of deaths in the day has been registered in Amritsar and Mohali which is 11 while Ludhiana recorded 10 deaths.
In a sigh of relief, 2,949 patients were discharged after recovering from the contagious disease. With this, the number of cured persons rose to 277189, as per the bulletin.
Total 18 patients are in critical condition and have been put on ventilator support while 556 are on oxygen support.
