In a massive development, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government on Friday suspended the state's Vigilance Bureau's Chief SPS Parmar. Punjab Vigilance Chief SPS Parmar's suspension took place in a crackdown on corruption by Bhagwant Singh Mann's government.
Alongside the Vigilance Bureau Chief, an AIG and an SSP from the Vigilance Bureau have also been suspended for their roles in attempting to stall the investigation. According to sources, the trio allegedly attempting to shield accused individuals involved in a major driving license scam. Furthermore, they interfered with the inquiry process, delaying action against those implicated in the scam.
The government’s action sends a clear message: protecting the corrupt is as punishable as being corrupt.
“This is not just about a scam—it’s about betrayal of public trust,” CM Mann said in a strongly worded statement, adding, “Anyone who tries to shield wrongdoers will face consequences. No one is above the law.”
It is worth mentioning that SPS Parmar was appointed as Punjab Vigilance Bureau Chief in the month of March 2025. Parmar had replaced G. Nageshwara Rao. Interestingly, G Nageshwara Rao replaced Varinder Sharma as the new VB Chief in the month of February 2025.
AIG, who has been suspended, has been identified as Harpreet, while SSP's name is Swarandeep.
