The weather in Punjab has continued to change frequently. Just two days ago, both day and night temperatures were higher than usual, making it seem like summer was approaching.
However, over the past two days, dense fog and cloud cover have caused a change in weather patterns. It has led to a drop in the temperature. This change is connected to a western disturbance.
Previously, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a warning of major changes in the weather across the country in the next few days. As per IMD, two western disturbances were going to get active on 1st February and 3rd February, that would affect the weather in over 20 states. There is a possibility of rain, snowfall and dense fog in many areas as the effect may continue till 5th February.
This western disturbance will have a greater effect in the northwestern states including Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana and Rajasthan.
As per the Meteorological Department, a western disturbance is active in the form of a cyclonic circulation over eastern Afghanistan. Additionally, a cyclonic system is also active in Assam and northeastern states, that can cause rain in these areas.
Meteorologist Pavneet Kaur Kingra has stated that light rain is expected in some parts of Punjab on 4th February. Due to this, temperatures may drop further. She has emphasized that the weather has been undergoing changes due to the western disturbances.
She has also advised people to take special care of their health and wear warm clothes when stepping outside. She has also mentioned that the cold weather would be beneficial for crops, especially wheat, as lower temperatures support healthy crop growth.
In view of the changing weather across the country in the next few days, people have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
