According to the latest updates from the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), the region is witnessing mild temperatures. The daytime temperature of the state is ranging from 6°C to 20°C. The chilling cold that people usually experience at this time of year is noticeably missing.
Dr. Pavneet Kaur Kingra, a weather expert from PAU, informed that temperature is 2 to 3 degrees higher than normal. Last January, the cold was much harsher, but this year it isn’t severe.
Apart from this, the weather in Punjab is expected to stay clear and dry, with no fog or rain. Dr. Kingra has explained that while cold weather typically starts in December, this year it’s been arrived late. According to the meteorological department, the coming days are also likely to remain dry. The skies are expected to stay sunny and temperature may continue to rise, indicating warmer days ahead.
Additionally, no alert has been issued for fog and cold wave in Punjab today. The average maximum temperature has dropped by 1 degree in the last 24 hours. However, the temperature remains 3.1 degrees Celsius above normal all across the state.
According to the meteorological department, Punjab has received 37 per cent less rainfall from 1st to 22nd January. Due to this, Punjab has been put in the red zone as well.
As per the meteorological department, 12.3 mm rainfall has been received in the state in the first 22 days of January. But this year too, the rainfall has been much less than usual. Punjab has received a totla of 8.3 mm rainfall, which is 32 per cent less than normal.
