The weather in Punjab is likely to remain dry on January 13 and 14. This will bring temporary relief in the state, following the recent rain and cold wave. However, the Meteorological department has predicted the activation of a new western disturbance from the night of January 14. This western disturbance is likely to bring rainfall to the plains of Punjab on January 15 and 16.
This change in the weather could result in another round of rain as well. This will impact various districts across the state. An orange alert is issued for 11 districts, including Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, and Patiala, where visibility is expected to drop below 50 meters as fog and cold wave has continued to grip the region.
Over the last 24 hours, Gurdaspur was the coldest in the state as it recorded a minimum temperature of 5°C, whereas Fazilka recorded the highest maximum temperature at 19.6°C. Chandigarh has experienced a minimum temperature of 11°C with 5.5 mm rainfall on Sunday morning.
As the western disturbance sets in, all the residents are advised to prepare for colder temperatures and potential disruptions that can be caused by rain. People are advised to stay updated with the latest weather alerts for the coming days.
Previously, the Head of the Meteorology Department at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, Dr. Pavneet Kaur Kangra, had informed that dense fog is expected to severely affect visibility, urging commuters to exercise care while traveling on 12 January.
She had also urged everyone to stay protected from the cold by covering themselves adequately when going outdoors. Morning and evening walks should be avoided as well. In order to stay safe, people are encouraged to wear warm clothing when stepping out.
