Multiple districts of Punjab witnessed rainfall on Thursday, and the temperature again fell in the rain-affected areas. Dr. Avneet Kaur Kingra, a meteorologist at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, has predicted that Punjab is likely to witness rainfall till March 1, 2025. It means multiple districts of Punjab will witness rainfall for the next two days as well. Dr. Avneet Kaur Kingra mentioned that the shifting weather patterns are due to the WD (Western Disturbance) system, leading to significant climate changes. The meteorologist further outlined the 55-year-old record that has been broken in Punjab in terms of night-time temperature, i.e., the lowest temperature.

Dr. Kingra highlighted that the nighttime temperatures in February 2025 have deviated substantially from the norm. For the first time since 1970, the night temperature has been recorded above normal, breaking a 55-year-old record.

In a conversation, Dr. Bhavneet Kaur Kingra elaborated that both night and day temperatures are currently above average. She noted that yesterday’s daytime temperature was 27.4°C, approximately 4.5°C higher than normal. Similarly, today’s minimum temperature was recorded at 18°C, which is nearly 8.5°C above the expected norm. This is the highest recorded minimum temperature for this time of year since 1970.

Dr. Kingra explained that the cloudy conditions are contributing to the rise in night temperatures. She added that the Western Disturbance system is prevailing over the region, and therefore, rain is expected over the next two days. She also advised the public to take health precautions during this weather and emphasized that the current conditions could prove beneficial for farmers.

Notably, IMD Chandigarh had also predicted rainfall in Punjab on February 27 and February 28, 2025.
