The Punjab Women Commission has served a notice to former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, seeking an explanation for his alleged controversial remarks about women during a public rally in Gidderbaha. The rally was organized to campaign for Congress candidate Amrita Warring in the upcoming bypolls.
Raj Lali Gill, Chairperson of the Punjab Women Commission, expressed her disapproval of Channi’s comments. She called them “shameful” and “highly inappropriate.” She stated, “The language he used to compare women, Jatt-Sikhs, and Pandits was insulting. Channi ji has a history of controversies involving such remarks, and this behaviour cannot be ignored.”
The Commission is also considering to take action against Amrita Warring, who was present during the rally. “We will evaluate her role in the matter,” Gill said.
She warned that failure to appear before the Commission would result in legal action against Channi. “If Channi ji does not comply, we will take legal advice on filing a FIR,” she added.
These comments of Channi has ignited a political storm, with critics accusing the former CM of propagating regressive views.
