A Mohali court on Friday granted relief to former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini in the notorious Multani kidnapping case and stayed his arrest till September 1. The court also reserved judgment on the former DGP's anticipatory bail application till September 1. Earlier, the SIT (Special Investigation Team) raided his Sector-20 residence to arrest Sumedh Singh Saini.
The moratorium on Saini's arrest was lifted by a special court in Mohali, following which the raid was carried out but now the Mohali court has stayed his arrest till next month. Advocate Sartej Singh Narula in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, who is also the counsel for government-promised amnesty witness Jagit Singh, has filed a CM in which the court was told that Sumedh Singh Saini has an alliance with the CBI and The CBI has always defended Mummedh Saini in the Multani kidnapping case.
The murder case is based on the statements made by two co-accused former inspectors Jagir Singh and Kuldeep Singh after they became official witnesses in the case registered at the Mataur police station. It has been learned that Balwant Singh Multani was tortured and mocked inside the premises of Sector-17 police station, in which Saini is the main culprit.

Now that the two co-accused have become witnesses and the SIT wants to gather evidence through both of them, the CBI is not helping him, in which case the probe is not moving forward. Despite repeated orders of Mohali court and repeated appeals of SIT, CBI is not providing documents of Multani case to SIT and is misleading the court, behind which Sumedh Singh Saini is trying to escape.
That is why Saini has repeatedly demanded that the matter be investigated by the CBI in the High Court.
