ASHISHPURI, Kapurthala – September 11: Navin Singh, a 50-year-old man originally from Begowal village in Kapurthala, was tragically shot and killed in Chicago during an altercation with a young African-American.
Navin, who had lived in Chicago for 35 years, owned a liquor store in the city. According to reports, the fatal incident occurred when a heated argument broke out between Navin and the suspect at around 10:30 PM as the store was closing. In a sudden fit of rage, the suspect shot Navin multiple times, leading to his death on the spot.
Navin Singh was the son-in-law of Jathedar Surat Singh, former president of a religious committee in Nadala. His death has left his family, especially his relatives in Nadala, devastated.
Local sources, including Jathedar Surat Singh’s younger brother, Avtar Singh Multani, have confirmed the news. American police acted swiftly, arresting the suspect and sealing the crime scene. An investigation into the circumstances of the argument is ongoing.
The loss of Navin Singh has deeply saddened the local Punjabi community, both in the U.S. and India, with family members struggling to cope with the tragedy.
