In tragic news, two Punjab citizens were killed after a targeted terrorist attack in Srinagar. Terrorists have once again targeted non-local workers in Jammu & Kashmir. They reportedly opened fire on non-local persons in the Shaheed Ganj area of Srinagar, in which one person died and another person was seriously injured and subsequently succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The deceased have been identified as Amritpal Singh and Rohit Masih, both residents of Amritsar. Kashmir Zone Police informed through X that the area has been cordoned off by the administration.
The mother of the deceased informed through tearful eyes that her son was to get married this year, Amritpal Singh had got engaged only a month ago. In search of higher wages, he used to go to Srinagar to do wood work. Family members told that Amritpal had thought that by getting more wages, the family would be able to live better and some extra money could be saved for the wedding. He was working as a carpenter in Srinagar for the last five or six years and this news came last night. The wedding was to take place this year, so he had asked his family to go to Srinagar to earn some extra money, but little did he know that he would not come back.
Rohit Masih was married and had two small children, a girl and a boy. He had gone to Srinagar for the first time for some work. Amritpal Singh of the same village, who earlier used to go to Srinagar for wood work, had now also took his friend Rohit along with him. He belonged to the Chamiari village of Ajnala, Amritsar in Punjab.
Officials have said that on Wednesday evening, terrorists opened fire in Shaheed Ganj area due to which 31-year-old Amritpal Singh, resident of Amritsar, Punjab died on the spot. Another person who was with him, identified as Rohit Masih was also injured in the attack, but unfortunately died in the hospital this morning. Meanwhile, a search operation has been launched to nab the attackers. Officials have said that the entire area has been cordoned off.
According to the information given by the police, on Wednesday around 7 pm, terrorists shot Amritpal Singh from close range with an AK rifle in Shalla Kadal area of Habba Kadal of Srinagar. Amritpal died on the spot.
On this incident in Srinagar, police have said that this is the first attack by terrorists on a non-local in Kashmir this year. Last year, terrorists had carried out several attacks on non-local workers in the valley, including in Anantnag and Shopian districts. The area has been cordoned off to trace the attackers.
