In a powerful statement shared on his social media, Punjab’s beloved singer, Guru Randhawa, has called for the Punjabi language to be made a mandatory subject for all students in Punjab, regardless of their educational board. The singer, known for his hit songs and deep connection to his roots, emphasised that the Punjabi language is more than just a medium of communication, it is a symbol of pride, identity, and culture for the people of Punjab

Guru Randhawa expressed, “PUNJABI Language is a must for every student studying in PUNJAB no matter what the board is.

It's our Pride and mother ❤️

We respect all languages but Punjabi language is our culture and roots.

My whole existence is because of my Language and the songs in Punjabi 🙏

Forever Proud Villager, Proud Punjabi , Proud Indian 🙏”

The singer, who has gained international fame, further stressed that prompting the Punjabi language is a collective responsibility. “We must ensure that the youth of Punjab remain connected to their culture and heritage. The language is the foundation of who we are, and it is important that every student, no matter which educational broad they follow, learns it.”

Randhawa, who identifies as “always a proud villager, proud Punjabi, and proud Indian,” urged everyone to take pride in their mother tongue. “It’s our cultural backbone, and we must nurture and protect and protect it for generations to come.”

This statement comes at a time when there are growing concerns over the diminishing influence of regional languages across the world, especially in the face of global English dominance. Guru Randhawa’s passionate appeal has sparked a renewed conversation around preserving regional languages particularly Punjabi, and ensuring that it continues to thrive in the modern age.

Guru Randhawa’s call to action is more than just about language, it’s about preserving the essence of Punjab itself. As he eloquently put it, “I am what I am because of my language, my songs, and the pride I carry as a Punjabi.”
