Punjab's IAS officer arrested by CBI taking bribe of 2 lakhs, know the whole matter

The CBI has taken an action against senior IAS officer Paramjit Singh for demanding a bribe of Rs 5 lakh in exchange for promotion.  Paramjit Singh, posted as Director in Punjab Roadways, has been arrested by the CBI red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 2 lakh.

During the CBI raids on the premises of the accused, cash worth Rs 30 lakh has also been recovered.  According to sources, Paramjit Singh is posted as Director of Punjab roadways in Chandigarh.  The complainant had told the CBI that he was going to be promoted to the post of general manager and this director was also included in the departmental promotion committee constituted in this regard.

The director told the complainant that if he wants to be promoted to the post of general manager, then give him a bribe of Rs 5 lakh, then he will recommend his file to the departmental promotion committee. 

It is also alleged that the complainant was also threatened with dire consequences if he did not pay the bribe amount.According to the CBI, in this case the deal was finally settled for two lakh rupees.

The complainant gave a complaint in this regard to the Anti-Corruption Branch of the CBI.  On the basis of the complaint, when the CBI conducted a preliminary investigation, after finding the preliminary facts in the case, action was initiated by registering a case under various criminal sections.  After this, this IAS officer, who was taking a bribe of two lakh rupees, was arrested by the CBI.

According to the CBI, raids are going on at his locations in Chandigarh and Mohali , during the raids, cash and important documents worth Rs 30 lakh have been recovered.  According to the CBI, the arrested IAS officer will be produced before the special CBI court in Chandigarh on Tuesday.  Further work is being done to verify the documents recovered from him.  The inspection of the matter is underway.
