A 28-year-old Ph.D. student at Panjab University (PU) in Chandigarh committed suicide in her home by eating poison. This student was from Ludhiana and lived in Dhanas, Chandigarh, on a rental basis. In an unconscious state, the girl was carried to the hospital, where doctors proclaimed her dead. The deceased was taken to Chandigarh's Sarangpur police station for a post-mortem. The forensic team arrived at the girl's room to investigate.

When the police arrived on the scene, they broke down the door and transported Gurvinder Kaur to the hospital. Police found no suicide note in her room.
