Is Ghoomer a true story?
Well, the answer is yes and no at the same time. R Balki's Ghoomer is reportedly inspired by the incredible real-life tale of a late Hungarian shooter who overcame adversity after a serious hand injury and won two Olympic medals. Therefore, it can be said that Ghoomer is inspired by a true story but the story is fictional in nature. Now the question arises who is the Hiungarianm shooter on whom R Balki's Ghoomer is inspired from? The answer is Karoly Takacs. On digging more, True Scoop News found that Karoly Takacs was only the third known physically disabled athlete to have competed in the Olympic Games after George Eyser in 1904 and Olivér Halassy in 1928, followed by Liz Hartel in 1952, Neroli Fairhall in 1984 and Oscar Pistorius in 2012. To be precise, Karoly Takacs was the first shooter to win two Olympic gold medals in the 25 meter rapid fire pistol event, both with his left hand after his right hand was seriously injured.
Coming to R Balki's movie, Saiyami Kher will be seen playing the role of a paraplegic sportsperson. Helmed by the acclaimed director R Balki, the film stars Abhishek Bachchan, Saiyami Kher, Shabana Azmi and Angad Bedi in the lead roles. The film is all set to hit the theatres on August 18. Notably, Abhishek and his father Amitabh Bachchan have always been an integral part of R Balki movies. Last time, R Balki collaborated with Abhishek Bachchan in the Paa (2009).
