AR Rahman's wife Saira Banu announced she is separating from the Oscar-winning via an official statement published by her lawyer Vandana Shah. AR Rahman, 57, and Saira Banu, 50 ended their 29 years of marriage.
After AR Rahman's divorce, the term 'Grey Divorce' has surfaced yet again. For those who are unaware, Grey Divorce refers to the trend of couples aged 50 and older ending their long-term marriages. These couples are sometimes called 'silver splitters'. Below is a list of celebs who underwent the Grey Divorce-
1) AR Rahman & Saira Banu
AR Rahman and Saira Banu's divorce was announced on November 19, 2024. AR Rahman's wife Saira Banu's lawyer Vandana Shah shared a statement that the couple’s relationship issues were the the reason for the decision. The statement further said that despite their deep love for each other, the couple has realised that their differences and struggles have created an irreparable divide that they feel unable to resolve at this time.
2) Malaika Arora and Arbaaz Khan
Another couple who falls under the grey divorce phenomenon is Malaika Arora and Arbaaz Khan. Malaika Arora got married to Arbaaz Khan back in 1997. After being together for almost 19 years, the couple parted ways in 2017. While Malaika Arora is 51 years old, actor & filmmaker Arbaaz Khan is 57. After they parted ways, Malaika Arora started dating Arjun Kapoor, on the other hand, Arbaaz dated Giorgia Andriani. However, Arbaaz is now married to Sshura Khan while Malaika's relationship status is currently single as she has reportedly broken up with actor Arjun Kapoor.
3) Seema Sajdeh and Sohail Khan
Bollywood actor & filmmaker Sohail Khan also fit in 'the Grey Divorce' trend. Sohail Khan, 53, got divorced from his wife Seema Sajdeh, 47 in 2022. The couple was married for almost 22 years and officially ended their marriage in 2022.
4) Hrithik Roshan and Susanne Khan
Bollywood's 'Greek God' Hrithik Roshan also fits in the 'Grey Divorce' trend. Hrithik Roshan, 50, married Susanne Khan in 2000 and divorced in 2014 after 14 years of togetherness. However, the couple remains on amicable terms to co-parent their children. Currently, Hrithik is dating actress Saba Azad, while Susanne Khan is dating Arslan Goni.
5) Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan
Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao's breakup fit perfectly under the 'Grey Divorce' category. Aamir Khan, 59, and Kiran Rao, 51 announced their divorce in July 2021 after being married to each other for more than 15 years. However, despite the divorce, Aamir and Kiran continue to share a cordial bond with each other.
