The trailer of the much-awaited movie Raid 2 was released on Tuesday and ever since then, it has been buzzing on social media among fans. Directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, Raid 2 is the extension of Raid that showcased India's longest IT raid in history on a crooked politician. Who is real life Amay Patnaik played by Ajay Devgn in Raid franchise?
As per reports, the character of Amay Patnaik is loosely based on Income Tax Officer Sharda Prasad Pandey. Sharda Prasad Pandey & his team carried out an income tax raid on the then Congress MLA Sardar Inder Singh. Around Rs 420 crores worth of black money and gold were found in the mansion of the then MLA. He used to live in the mansion with his family in Kanpur.
On the morning of July 16, 1981, Sardar Inder Singh a prominent businessman and a former Rajya Sabha MP woke up to see more than 90 officers outside his gate. The officers were there to conduct a tax raid at his house. The raid started at 8 am but even the IT officers were not aware of the hidden treasure they were going to discover. What was supposed to be a one-day operation, it stretched to three nights and two days, sending shockwaves across the country.
The IT raid was orchestrated by Alak Kumar Batbyal, Deputy Director (Intelligence), who had gathered not only 90 officers for the job but also 200 policemen and some upper division clerks for smooth operations. As per reports, after the counting was over, after 18 hours, the Income Tax Department of Kanpur discovered that it had collected a sum of Rs 1.6 crore in cash. Sharda Prasad Pandey, then Commissioner of Income Tax department said, ”There has never been another recovery like it."

It was originally slated for a theatrical release on 15 November 2024, and then 21 February 2025, but was delayed due to reasons unknown.
