The Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided 13 places in Rupnagar (Ropar), Punjab in connection with a narcotics-linked money-laundering case involving prime accused Jagdish Singh alias Bhola. As per reports, illegal mining work was being carried out on the seized land and in the surrounding areas of Ropar district. The ED case was booked on the basis of FIRs filed by Punjab Police.
Till now, cash worth Rs 3 crore has been recovered during the search. Those involved in the case include Naseeb Chand (mining mafia), Shri Ram Stone Crusher and others.
ED conducted searches at multiple locations in Punjab on Wednesday as part of a narcotics-linked money-laundering case involving prime accused Jagdish Singh, alias Bhola. A total of 13 premises in Rupnagar district are being searched after it was found that illegal mining was being carried out on land earlier seized by the ED in the Bhola case.
An ED official said that illegal mining was being done on the seized land and in the surrounding areas of Rupnagar (Ropar) district. This land was seized by ED in the infamous Bhola drug case. It is pertinent to note that the Bhola drug case is in a crucial stage of hearing before the special court under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
What is the Bhola Drug case?
ED had registered the case on the basis of FIR registered by Punjab Police. The case is commonly known as the Bhola drug case, as it identifies the alleged kingpin, wrestler-turned-cop and “drug mafia” Jagdish Singh alias Bhola. Bhola was arrested by the ED in January 2014 and the case is currently pending trial in a special court under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in Punjab. The drug money laundering case pertains to a multi-crore synthetic narcotics racket that was unearthed during 2013-14 in Punjab.
The case is commonly known as the Bhola drug case to identify the alleged “kingpin”, wrestler-turned-policeman-turned-”drug mafia” Jagdish Singh alias Bhola.
