The Farmers of Punjab will once again move to Shambhu border to protest against the Central Government. The Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) made a big announcement saying that the railway traffic will be blocked again on June 20. Farmer leader Salvinder Singh said that almost four months have passed since the joint protest at Shambhu border. Farmers had to face many difficulties during this time.
Farmer leader Jasbir Singh Piddi said that a meeting of farmer organizations was convened, a meeting of Bharatiya Kisan Union and other farmer organizations was held in which it was decided that the protest will continue until their demands are met.It was decided to protest again at Shambhu border in which the railway track will be blocked. Farmer organizations will leave from their respective areas to protest at Shambhu border on June 20.
In the meeting, reportedly there was also a discussion about making the farmers' protest even stronger. The farmers decided that the farmer organizations will leave for Shambhu border on June 20 and the protest will continue until the central government accepts the farmers’ demands.
Farmers Protest 2.0:
Farmers restarted their protest against the Central Government in February 2024. Previously, the farmers across India had rallied against the Centre in protest of the controversial farm laws in 2020. Besides a legal guarantee for MSP and farm debt waiver, farmers are also demanding implementation of the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations, 200 days of guaranteed annual work for farm labourers at Rs 700 per day, pension for farmers and farm labourers, no hike in electricity tariff, compensation to the families of the farmers who died during the year long stir in 2021, among others.
