In his address to the Punjab Vidhan Sabha today, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced a public holiday across Punjab on the occasion of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh's Martyrdom Day on March 23.
Opposition MLA Raja Warring termed the holiday as illegal and said that it was a day to spread awareness among the students. CM Mann said that the last time the Congress government had changed the leave.
To this Warring said, “I do not consider it appropriate to announce a holiday. It would not be a tribute. It would be better if Shaheed Bhagat Singh was mentioned in school-college and office instead of holidays. How did he sacrifice his life and where did he stay in jail? Our people will not even know about it.”
But Warring ultimately faced disgrace after being asked about Bhagat Singh’s birth anniversary. Raja Warring failed to answer Bhagwant Mann’s question.
Seeing the silence of Raj Warring, even Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan could not stop his laughter.
Bhagwant Mann asked Raja Warring, “when was the birthday of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh? I am also aware of this." Warring remained silent, CM Mann said, "Wonderful? It happens on 28th September."
“This holiday was for the people, especially who went to pay homage to the young Shaheed Bhagat Singh at Hussainiwala or his native village Khatkar Kalan,” said Mann.
