Rakhi Sawant has revealed how she auditioned for her role in Shah Rukh Khan starrer, 2003 film Main Hoon Na. In a recent episode on Zee Comedy Show, while appearing as a guest she expressed gratitude to judge and filmmaker Farah Khan for the opportunity.
In the same episode, Rakhi recalled her chawl days and shared an emotional story of her struggle.
Rakhi played a glamorous girl in the film to whom Zayed Khan's character was attracted before realising his love for his best friend, portrayed by Amrita Rao.
Rakhi, according to an article in SpotboyE, stated that “I used to give my best and to look slim and fit, I used to have only one bowl of dal every day. However, things weren't looking so great. But one fine day, I got a call from Farah Khan Madam's office, and they called me for an audition at Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies' office and things changed from there.”
“As soon as I kept the phone, I lost consciousness. My mother gave me another bowl of dal and that's when I got into my senses and started preparing for my audition,” Rakhi added.
Rakhi went on to say that she had to hide her clothes from her chawl's residents. "I was told that I would have to look glamorous as the character was such. But you couldn't go out in such clothes in the chawl where I was staying. So I went to my mother and asked her what I should do. She gave me a pair of curtains, which I wrapped around my glitzy outfit and went to the audition," she added.
Rakhi stated that when she arrived at the venue, she took down the curtains and delivered her lines. The crew liked her and thus offered the role.
Rakhi appeared in the 14th season of Bigg Boss earlier this year. Aly Goni, Nikki Tamboli, Rahul Vaidya, and Rubina Dilaik along with Rakhi were among the five finalists. While Rubina won the show, Rakhi chose to accept 14 lakh in exchange for giving up her chance to win.
