All about Ranya Rao and her IPS father
Apart from being the stepdaughter of a senior IPS officer, Ranya Rao is an actress in Kannada films. Her father's name is K. Ramachandra Rao. He is an IPS officer of Karnataka cadre. He is a DGP rank officer and is working as Director General in Police ( DGP Police Housing Corporation). K. Ramachandra Rao was born on 7 May 1966 in Andhra Pradesh. He did M.Sc, then completed PhD. He prepared for UPSC Civil Services and got selected for IPS in 1993. He was appointed in the Karnataka cadre on 4 September 1994. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested her at Bengaluru International Airport. Officials say that 14.8 kg of gold has been recovered from her. Ranya had returned from Dubai. During this time, 14 kg of gold bars and 800 grams of gold jewellery were found in her belt.
Reports suggest that she had gone to Dubai four times in 15 days, due to which the investigating agencies had suspected her for a long time. When she returned to Bengaluru from Dubai this time, she was thoroughly investigated. During this, it was found that she was wearing a large amount of gold and had hidden some gold bars in her clothes. Ranya Rao has been sent to 14 days of judicial custody.
Ranya, 31, made her film debut in 2014 with the Kannada movie Maanikya, directed by and starring Sudeep. She played Manasa, a wealthy young woman and the lead actress of the movie. Expanding her career beyond Kannada cinema, Ranya made her Tamil debut in 2016 with Wagah, where she starred opposite Vikram Prabhu in a romantic drama.
After she landed at the Bengaluru Airport, Ranya allegedly claimed to be the daughter of Karnataka’s Director General of Police and contacted local police personnel to escort her home. DRI officials are now probing whether any law enforcement officers, including her IPS relative, were aware of her activities or were misled into assisting her.
