Bollywood Gangster Ravi Pujari extradited from Senegal to India, wanted in more than 100 cases of murder and extortion

On Monday, Ravi Pujari, fugitive Bollywood gangster has been brought back to India after his arrest was made from Senegal. Gangster was wanted for crimes like murder and extortion, brought to Bengaluru, India via France, said officials.

As per the information acquired from sources, for the time being, Pujari has been formally detained and on Monday, he will be produced before the court. However, Ravi Pujari had lodged an application before the Supreme Court of Senegal, stating that he was not the person India was looking for, but the intelligence agencies in co-ordination with Senegal authorioties were able to convince the court that Pujrai was trying to mislead the investigators.

On Wednesday, the apex court of Senegal dismissed the plea of Pujari seeking to stop his extradition to India. Followed by the Supreme Court's rejection of plea, a team of Karnataka Police with the help of South African authorities and Senegal arrested Pujari.

Karnataka Police is likely to ask for judicial custody of Ravi Pujari and later, he is expected to be taken into police custody in connection with multiple cases filed against him. The Mumbai Police is also expected to seek Pujari's custody.

Gangster Raviprakash Sulya Pujari as known as Ravi Pujari, for over 17 years had been on the run and wanted in over 100 cases across. The 51-year-old has multiples cases filed agaisnt him including extortion, murder and ransome. Only in  Karnataka, 101 cases are registered against him, while in Gujarat he has been booked in 10 cases, a few cases in Delhi as well, said sources. The cases registered are mostly for murder and extortion. 

Prior taking into custody, Ravi Pujari had established himself as a hotelier with a different identity and was allegedly running his underworld racket from Senegal.

In early 2000, Pujari came to light when he started to extort from famous Bollywood personalities and builders. He was involved in an attempt to murder case, aimed at killing a prominent lawyer of Mumbai. In 2002, a Red Corner Notice was issued against him.

Despite of the fact that many Interpol notices had been issued, Pujari decided to be on the run for two decades. Once a right-hand man of fellow gangster Chhota Rajan, he had settled in Senegal after Rajan was arrested from Bali, Indonesia in 2016, asserted sources.

According to the Indian Intelligence sources, Ravi Pujari, was living in disguise by a false identity of Anthony Fernandes, a Burkina Faso passport holder, was located in a remote village in South Africa.

It is to be mentionable here that Pujari's wife Padma and three children had also eloped from India. His son, who was recently married in Australia, reportedly holds an Australian passport. Last year, Ravi Pujari, living under the identity of Anthony had jumped bailed from a Senegal court.
