Ravneet Bittu, Ravneet Bittu Chitta, Ravneet Bittu Poppy Husk, Ravneet Bittu Poppy Husk Ban, Ravneet Bittu Punjab Chitta Addiction: Union Minister of State (MoS) and BJP leader Ravneet Bittu recently dropped a bizarre suggestion to lift the ban from a drug. While addressing a gathering, Ravneet Bittu advocated to lift the ban from  Dode Bhukki (Poppy Husk) in Punjab. Bittu highlighted that banning Poppy Husk not only impacted the business but also made way for Chitta (heroin) addiction in Punjab. Hence, the ban on Dode Bhukki (Poppy Husk) should be reconsidered by the Central Government.

"We suffered losses by shutting down our traditional things, like Dode Bhukki (Poppy Husk), in Punjab. When our people used to consume it, they worked hard and brought in the Green Revolution. By banning these, chitta (heroin) came to Punjab.” He added, “These big decisions need to be reconsidered by discussing them with the central government."

For the unversed, reports suggest that the sale of poppy husk has been declared illegal by the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN). As per goaf.gov.in, Poppy straw is one of the narcotic drugs under the NDPS Act, 1985. Hence, anyone possessing, selling, purchasing or using poppy straw without a license or authorization or in violation of any conditions of the license is liable to prosecution under the NDPS Act.

It is pertinent to mention here that Ravneet Bittu has been under the scanner over his remarks for the past few days. Bittu recently batted for an inquiry into the properties of farmer leaders in Punjab. Bittu emphasized that protests are going on only by the farmer leaders' side and not by the real farmers. This has sparked a massive uproar in Punjab with AAP Senior Spokesperson Neel Garg slamming the MoS and accusing BJP of trying to defame Punjab farmers.
