Around 2kg of RDX (Royal Demolition eXplosive) was used in the explosion which went off in the Ludhiana Court complex on December 23, claimed a forensic report filed with the Punjab Police.
As per the reports, a significant amount of explosives got washed away when a water line burst during the explosion. The blast killed at least one person and five were injured.
The blast was carried out by Babbar Khalsa, a Pakistan-backed pro-Khalistan group.
The police and the National Security Guard (NSG) after conducting a preliminary investigation believe the deceased was the one who planted the bomb on the court premises. The individual
has been identified as Gagandeep, a former cop.
According to investigators, the sacked cop intended to set the bomb on the ground floor in order to cause the most damage to the building and kill as many people as possible. The explosive,
however, went off as it was being fixed.
Gagandeep's phone reportedly burst while he was fixing the explosive. He, however, had a dongle that he used to access the internet. The NIA and Punjab Police believe he was gathering
information about how to assemble and activate the device from someone online.
Gagandeep was tracked down using the SIM card from the same internet dongle. His family then recognised the dead body because of his tattoo.
According to the latest information, the police have apprehended the deceased key suspect's brother. The investigative team has now taken Gagandeep Singh's brother into custody and
is questioning him about the explosion. A mobile phone, tablet and cash were also seized from Gagandeep Singh's brother's home, according to a reputed media outlet.
A mobile phone was also seized from the site of blast which could have been used as a detonator for explosives, according to the investigation team. The police are also expecting to acquire
some crucial information about the blast from the electronic gadgets found at the scene as well as the arrestee's resident.
