Ready for ‘Friendly Relationship’ with Taliban, says China

Director of Foreign Ministry Hua Chunying said, “Chinese government is willing to continue to develop friendly relations with Afghanistan.”

On Monday, the Chinese government said that it is ready to build a friendly relationship with the terrorist group – Taliban, who have recently seized the Afghan capital Kabul. It further said that China respects the people of Afghan and they may independently determine their destiny. 
Director of Foreign Ministry Hua Chunying said, “China respects the right of the Afghan people to independently determine their own destiny and is willing to continue to develop friendly and cooperative relations with Afghanistan.”

On Sunday, the Taliban captured the Afghan capital Kabul and declared that ‘war is over’ as President Ashraf Ghani and other diplomats have left the country. 
Mohammad Naeem, a spokesperson for the Taliban's political office, told Al Jazeera TV in an interview, “Today is a great day for the Afghan people and the mujahideen. They have witnessed the fruits of their efforts and their sacrifices for 20 years." As Taliban entered Kabul on August 15, President Ashraf Ghani fled the nation, claiming he wished to avoid bloodshed, as hundreds of Afghans yearning to flee flooded Kabul airport.
