Galicia & drug lords

Apart from being famous for its tourism, Galicia is also infamous for its drug cartels and mafias. For the unversed, the Galician Mafia has its own identity like the other drug cartels. Galician Mafis are a drug smuggling group in the Spanish region of Galicia.

One of the most famous acts of violence related to the illegal drug trade in Galicia was the massacre of "O Hostal da Ría", in Vilanova de Arousa on 26 January 1997, where a drug dealer killed five people to avoid having witnesses of his involvement in heroin trafficking. The People's Party of Galicia was also accused of being financed with narco money. However, no confirmation can be made.

Notably, pictures were reportedly found of Galician premier Alberto Núnez Feijoo vacationing with convicted smuggler Marcial Dorado.
