On 14th January 2022, Shooter, an Indian Punjabi language action movie got released in the theatres. The movie was directed by Dilsher Singh and Khushpal Singh. The movie features Jayy Randhawa, Swalina and Vada Grewal. The movie was produced by K V Dhillon. The storyline of the film revolves around a gangster’s life. Shooter was initially scheduled to get released on 21st January 2020 but it got banned in Punjab by the Punjab Government. The government banned the movie because they believed the movie promotes violence, heinous crimes, extortion, threats, and criminal intimidation. The film was also banned in Haryana for the same reason. The movie finally got released on 14th January 2022 in the theatres. The plot of this Punjabi action movie has raised the curiosity level and viewers want to know whether the movie is based on real-life events or not.
Is Shooter based on a real-life incident?
The answer to this question is yes. The movie Shooter is based on the life of Indian gangster Sukha Kahlon. Sukha Kahlon was a Punjabi gangster, robber, contract-killer, and sharpshooter. He belonged to Kahlwan, PS Kartarpur, Jalandhar. This Punjabi gangster had almost around 40 FIRs registered against him. The cases were registered in Punjab, Haryana, West Bengal and Rajasthan against him for his criminal activities ranging from contract killing to robbery. He called himself ‘sharpshooter’ and flaunted his crimes on his Facebook page as well.
He was known for his shooting skills. He was 24 when his rival Vicky Gounder, who was once his best friend, shot him dead on 21st June 2015. More than 100 bullets were found in his body.
This dreaded gangster had a love story as well. He was in a relationship with a girl and they both got married on 8th October 2008. After their marriage, the couple moved to Australia. Sukha became a cab driver in Australia but for some reasons the couple got divorced. Sukha came back to India and returned to his world of crime.
On 21st June 2015, his rival Vicky Gounder, who was once his best friend, shot him dead. Vicky and his accomplices had even filmed the incident and performed bhangra around the dead body of Sukha in front of the policemen in Phagwara.
