With Indians eagerly waiting to celebrate the country's 78th Independence Day on August 15, 2024, a plethora of movies are releasing in theaters for fans in the backdrop of long weekends. India is all set to witness a clash between three movies at the box office- Vedaa, Stree 2, and Khel Khel Mein. While all three are of different genres, it is Vedaa that revolves around patriotism and comes with a message dedicated to women's rights & the importance of equality in society. Vedaa is an action thriller movie directed by Nikkhil Advani, featuring John Abraham, Sharvari, Abhishek Bannerjee, Tamannaah Bhatia, and more in the leading roles. Vedaa has been created by the makers of Batla House, D-Day and hence fans are wondering whether Vedaa is a true story or Vedaa is a real story or not. Below is what we know about Vedaa True Story-
Is Vedaa a true story?
The answer is yes. Vedaa is inspired by real events that revolve around a woman played by Sharvari's uprising who goes on to challenge a draconian system. Going by the trailer, Vedaa may highlight the atrocities on Dalits that are still prevailing in some remote areas of India. It means Vedaa might hit the Caste System. John Abraham's character Abhimanyu is an Army Officer who gets court-martialed for not following orders. He goes on to team up with Sharvari against the antagonist which is played by actor Abhishek Bannerjee.
Film-maker Nikkhil Advani was quoted saying, "Vedaa is not just a film. It's inspired from real events and is a reflection of our society and pushes the boundaries of reality. Working with John, Sharvari and Abhishek Banerjee has been an incredible experience and I'm glad to finally announce the release date and fingers crossed the audiences gets moved the way we all did when we first heard the story of Vedaa."
On the other hand, John Abraham in a podcast with Ranveer Allahabadia said, "Aap is point pe argue nahi kar sakte hai mere saath, when I tell you women, children and animals are not safe in India. Aap mere saath debate karo. Can you debate this? You can not debate it…it is sad. Kyuki mai hindustan se pyaar karta hu. I am an India lover. Bahut zaruri hai ki mai India ko criticise kru. Patriotism aur jingoism mein farq hai. [You can not argue with me on this point when I tell you that women, children and animals are not safe in India. You can debate with me, but can you really debate this? You cannot... it is sad. Because I love India. I am an India lover. It is very important that I criticise India. There is a difference between patriotism and jingoism.]"
However, the makers have not revealed what particular case they have discussed in the movie.
