There is no surprise, that Dog Gone has made a cut into Netflix’s top 10 films chart owing to the storyline and all of its sequences will make any film lover to fell in love with it.
The inspirational tale tells the story of a father-son duo, who go on to look for their missing pet dog Gonker and starts stitching their own troubled relationships along the way. The hunt for their pet ends up creating a huge buzz in the process.
However, a pertinent question that still looms over is whether the movie is based on a true story, which lies even for those who have watched the movie.
The answer to this question is, Yes, Stephen Herek’s directorial Dog Gone is based on a true story and is written by Nick Santora, which is the adaptation of a 2017 book, which was originally inspired by a true story named Honest-to-God.
The 2017 book titled The Dog Gone: A Lost Pet’s Extraordinary Journey and the Family Who Brought Him Home is written by Pauls Toutonghi.
The heart-warming novel recounts the true story of a beloved family pet that goes missing whilst out on a hike with its owner on the Appalachian Trail, in 1998. Graduate Fielding Marshall was foreboding that his dog Gonker won’t survive for that long without his life-saving medication which was supposed to be administered at a monthly interval owing to his Addison’s disease.
This prompted the family to search for Gonker along the trail and soon this dog hunt gained media attention and got a huge mileage over the story’s emotive tone.
From the Film, on the reel Gonker is played by a Yellow Labrador, while in real life, the canine was a six-year-old mixed Golden Retriever, however, it is still unclear why the makers decided to change the dog’s breed, although both are similar in appearance. In the film, Gonker doesn't die after the reunion with Marshalls he never separated from them, while in real life, Gonker died just five years after the events depicted in the film, in 2003, at the age of 11.
The movie also features a separate dog, in flashbacks, the film takes to explore the journey of the relationship that Ginny has with her childhood dog Oji, which happens to be an Akita, a dog breed that is found in the mountains of Northern Japan.
For, those wanting to know, the film was shot in the USA’s Georgia, while Principal photography took place specifically in and around the area’s surrounding area of Atlanta, Georgia in the fall of 2021.
The crew also filmed on location in Stone Mountain, Conyers, Powder Springs, Riverdale, and along the Appalachian Trail itself. The film shares the depiction of some mesmerizingly great and breathtaking scenery and provides most of Georgia’s ideal landscape.
