One of the most awaited web series multi-starrer Maharani Season 2 will be released on August 25 on Sony Liv App. More than a year after the release of its first season, Maharani 2 will finally be available for the fans to watch on the Sony Liv OTT platform. Maharani Season 1 was released on May 28, 2021, and its rippling political drama story won the hearts of many and the web series even garnered appreciation from critics and fans. Now, the wait for Maharani season 2 is finally as Ravindra Gautam-directorial will hit the Sony Liv streaming app. Bollywood actors like Huma Qureshi, Sohum Shah, Amit Sial, and more will be seen depicting the grappling story of Bihar politics. Now, fans are wondering whether Maharani season 2 is a true story or whether Maharani 2 is a real story or not.
The answer is yes and no at the same time. Maharani is a fictional web series, however, many incidents shown in it have been taken from real life especially from the controversial lives and political developments when in the 1990s Bihar Chief Minister (CM) Lalu Prasad Yadav shockingly chose his better half, Rabri Yadav, as his successor who barely had any experience of politics. Although many incidents might not be as same as the facts, Maharani is indeed inspired by the controversial lives of Ex Bhar's CMs Lalu Yadav and Rabri Yadav.
It is pertinent to mention here that Maharani depicts the Bihar political turmoil, scams and aftermath in the 90s when Rabri Yadav unexpectedly became the Chief Minister of Bihar in a fictional manner. Rani Bharti (Played by Huma Qureshi) is a homemaker and the wife of Bihar's chief minister Bheema (Played by Sohum Shah). Interestingly, reports suggest that Huma Qureshi played the character of Rabri Yadav and Sohum Shah portrayed the character of Lalu Yadav. Although there are no similarities when the actors allegedly portrayed the character of Lalu and Rabri, the web series discusses incidents that especially took place in their regime- for instance, Fodder Scam.
Real vs Reel: Is Rangbaaz 3 a true story based on Bihar's 'Don-turned-politician' Shahabuddin?
It is pertinent to mention here that Sohum Shah had denied portraying the character of former Bihar CM Lalu Yadav in one of the interviews with Outlook magazine in Maharani 2 or Maharani web series. " was never told that my character was inspired by Lalu Ji or anybody else. I was given a script and also given full freedom by the director to play the character of Bhima Bharti the way I wanted to do it," Sohum Shah had said.
Interestingly, the first season of Maharani, Fodder Scam has been outlined and discussed in the web series and due to which Bhima (Sohum) was sent to jail.
Coming to Maharani Season 2, the synopsis of the movie states that Bheema Bharti runs a proxy government from prison, CM Rani Bharti is accused of misgovernance while Bihar fights anti-incumbency, jungle raj, and corruption. Lawlessness has gripped the state of Bihar and the opposition holds Rani responsible for the state’s ‘jungle raj’.
